Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority INC, Theta Upsilon Omega Chapter presents the 2nd Annual Soul to Sole Heart Health Awareness Family Fun Walk and Run on Saturday, February 27th, 2015 at Elmer Thomas Park at 10am. Registration/ Check-in starts at 9am. We will also have a guest speaker at 9:45am to kick-off the walk. This event is FREE and open to the public. We encourage all participants to come dressed in RED in celebration of National Heart Health Month! Participants can chose to walk or run on the concrete walking trail in a distance of 1M or 5K.

February is American Heart Month, show yourself some love. Americans see the human heart as the symbol of love. Cardiovascular diseases that affect this vital muscle are at an all-time high in our nation.

Facts about Heart Disease, from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention:

•About 600,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year–that’s 1 in every 4 deaths.
•High blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol, and smoking are key risk factors for heart disease. About half of Americans (49%) have at least one of these three risk factors.
•In 2010, Oklahoma had the 3rd highest death rate for heart disease in the nation.

Join a walk with a cause and show how strong our hearts and souls can be to bring awareness to cardiovascular diseases. Learn about your risks for heart disease and stroke and stay “heart healthy” for yourself and your loved ones. We encourage all participants to come dressed in RED in celebration of National Heart Health Month!
