DESCRIPTION:Fall Foliage Walk\n \nReservations NEED to be made by Monday November 2\, 2015. \nTour Dates November 7\, November 14\, November 21 \nThe Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and the Association of Friends of the Wichitas will be conducting “Fall Foliage Walks”.  Interpreters take participants for a one-mile walk through a forested canyon.  Participants will enjoy the chance to view the autumn colors of red\, yellow\, orange and brown as leaves begin to change with the season.   \n\nDetails\nReservations are required and are taken on a first-come\, first-serve basis beginning on the reservation data above. Tour participants will meet at the Refuge Visitor Center located at the intersection of Highways 49 and 115. Visitors may obtain a Refuge leaflet and map from one of the dispensers located at each of the five entrances. \nParticipants should wear sturdy shoes and bring water to drink. Wheelchair access is available if requested at time of reservation. Each hike will last approximately 2 ½ – 3 hours. Due to the length of the program\, children must be at least eight (8) years of age to participate. Reservations will be retained until ten minutes prior to departure on each date. After that time\, stand-bys will be accepted. \nInterested persons are advised that the Refuge’s public interpretive program is intended for individuals and family units of six persons or less. Only one family’s reservation will be accepted per telephone call. We regret we cannot offer group tours but invite all interested individuals to call for reservations which are taken on a first-come\, first-serve basis. Reservations must be made by telephoning the Refuge Visitor Center on the following line only: (580) 429-2197\, beginning on the reservation date between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. \nThe mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is working with others to conserve\, protect and enhance fish\, wildlife\, plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. DESCRIPTION:Cameron University Visiting Writers Series continues with LeAnne Howe  \nThe Cameron University Department of English and Foreign Languages continues its Visiting Writers Series by welcoming LeAnne Howe\, author\, novelist\, playwright and poet\, onFriday\, November 6. At 3 p.m. that day\, Howe will present a lecture on the craft of writing; at 7 p.m. she will read selections from her work. Both presentations take place in the CETES Conference Center and are open to the public at no charge. The event is made possible through Cameron University Lectures and Concerts Series. \n  \nA native Oklahoman and an enrolled citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma\, Howe is the author of novels\, plays\, poetry\, screenplays and scholarship that deal with Native American experiences.  Her first novel\, “Shell Shaker\,” received an American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation. “Evidence of Red\,” a collection of poetry\, was honored with the Oklahoma Book Award in 2006. In 2014\, Howe’s memoir\, “Choctalking on Other Realities\,” won the inaugural MLA Prize for Studies in Native American Literatures\, Cultures\, and Languages.  She recently received the Distinguished Achievement Award for creative and critical work from the Western Literature Association.  Other awards include a Fulbright scholarship; 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Native Writers Circle of the Americas; and a 2012 United States Artists Ford Fellowship. \nHowe is the Eidson Distinguished Professor of American Literature in the English Department at the University of Georgia. \n  \nEditors and Broadcasters: For more information\, contact Janet E. DESCRIPTION:Fall Foliage Walk\n \nReservations NEED to be made by Monday November 2\, 2015. \nTour Dates November 7\, November 14\, November 21 \nThe Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and the Association of Friends of the Wichitas will be conducting “Fall Foliage Walks”.  Interpreters take participants for a one-mile walk through a forested canyon.  Participants will enjoy the chance to view the autumn colors of red\, yellow\, orange and brown as leaves begin to change with the season.   \n\nDetails\nReservations are required and are taken on a first-come\, first-serve basis beginning on the reservation data above. Tour participants will meet at the Refuge Visitor Center located at the intersection of Highways 49 and 115. Visitors may obtain a Refuge leaflet and map from one of the dispensers located at each of the five entrances. \nParticipants should wear sturdy shoes and bring water to drink. Wheelchair access is available if requested at time of reservation. Each hike will last approximately 2 ½ – 3 hours. Due to the length of the program\, children must be at least eight (8) years of age to participate. Reservations will be retained until ten minutes prior to departure on each date. After that time\, stand-bys will be accepted. \nInterested persons are advised that the Refuge’s public interpretive program is intended for individuals and family units of six persons or less. Only one family’s reservation will be accepted per telephone call. We regret we cannot offer group tours but invite all interested individuals to call for reservations which are taken on a first-come\, first-serve basis. Reservations must be made by telephoning the Refuge Visitor Center on the following line only: (580) 429-2197\, beginning on the reservation date between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. \nThe mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is working with others to conserve\, protect and enhance fish\, wildlife\, plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.
