I am proud to say that Lawton Fort Sill is where I was born and raised. My parents were brought to Ft. Sill by the military. And 37 years later they are still here. I am a MacArthur High School and Cameron University graduate. Both schools set me up for tremendous opportunities including 15 years with Southwestern Medical Center advancing from a Certified Nurses Assistant to a Family Nurse Practitioner. Additionally, I have a family business that thrives in a community that supports its own.
Lawton Proud is not about ignoring the faults of our community, because like others, we have our own. Rather, it is about celebrating all the wonderful things we have to be proud of. A few examples include:
-Lawton Fort Sill has three hospitals that not only provide an array of services but also offer wonderful professional opportunities.
-The Downtown and West Side shopping districts offer stores that meet the needs of many and additional economic support to our community.
-Just minutes away is our very own gem, the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge, where nature lovers can explore and take in the picturesque views of the Wichita’s.
-Entertainment options like Laugh Out Loud and Urban Air are family favorites that are sure to get you out and active. Or, if you want something a little more seasonal, how about our annual Arts For All and International Festivals that bring our community together for art, entertainment and food.
-Restaurants galore- whether you are looking for a local treasure like Burgess Grill or something known to many like Outback Steakhouse, our community hosts multiple eateries sure to please your taste buds.
– The People- this is the best part of who we are. Our community is home to some of the best people. Leaders who care, volunteer, engage, and invest in the growth and development of our home. Lawton Fort Sill is a community where, if you have a desire to be actively involved, you can easily do that and will be greeted with open arms.
These are just a taste of the wonderful things we have right here in our community. If you think something is missing then just like that saying from The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” Get out, get involved, and be the change you want to see in your community. Be Lawton Proud!
